Why Every Snow-Country Chimney Needs One
A heavy snow load creeps down the roof and slams into the chimney. Without a splitter, that force bends the flashing, breaks the seal and opens a leak that may stay hidden inside the roof for months. In the worst cases the whole chimney is bent or torn off. A splitter sits on the uphill side and parts the snow around the chimney, so the load flows past instead of pushing on it.
